Men's 2nd XI v Marden Russets 4
Ville faced Marden Russets in our final home game of the season in glorious sunshine. Pushback was delayed by 20 minutes or so due to an injury in a previous game.
When we did finally get started, Ville started very strong and within 5 minutes found themselves ahead. Adam Sidders had a reverse stick partially saved by the keeper, who couldn't see where it had gone, Hooper and Perks both pounced on it to bundle it over the line. A great start!
Marden came back into the game after this in a closely contested first half with Hughes making a few important saves for us. Ville went into half time leading 1-0. We hadn't been at our best for the whole half but had done very well in patches.
The second half was again a tight encounter. Ville struck first with a neat passage of play and Sidders fired one into the D for Perks to get on the end of and deflect it past their keeper. 2-0 Ville.
Marden managed to pull one back which made the last 10 minutes a tense finale. However, Ville managed to see the game out 2-1 and record their 4th straight win. We face Canterbury next week in a local derby in our final game of the season which will be another tough game. We are both currently level on points so lots of pride at stake, Ville will be keen to have the bragging rights and make it 5 wins in a row.
