Men's 2nd XI vs Maidstone M3

7 games undefeated Ville were keen to push on and mount a serious challenge at the top end of the table.

Another decent start to the game and Ville were on the front foot and looking dangerous. A neat move saw Perks slip into Sidders who passed it across to Dave Hooper only to hit the inside of the post and see it run along the goal line and Maidstone were able to clear their lines. The goal was coming. Ville had managed to win a few short corners and put one of them away with a straight strike from Perks who put it in the corner. 1-0 Ville. We went close again before half time; this time was Simon Hooper whose effort smashed the post.

We went into the break 1-0 (should have been more) and had looked pretty comfortable with Hughes pulling off a couple of good saves when called upon. Ville had played some lovely hockey.

Ville doubled their advantage not long into the 2nd half with another short corner routine. Sidders slipped it right to Dave Hooper to finish.

Maidstone managed to pull one back from the tightest of angles. 2-1… game on.

Moments later Ville managed to make it 3-1, a ball popped up in the air and Perks volleyed it home past the keeper.

3-1 to go and 13 minutes to go.

Maidstone managed to score again from a short corner, 3-2 now with 5 minutes to go or so we thought....

Ville then went down to 10 men for making a sub just after our attacking short corner had left the 23.

Strangely enough there was still 5 minutes to go and Maidstone managed to score again from a short corner. The game finished 3-3.

2 points dropped or 1 point gained? We go again next week, slightly disappointed but still unbeaten and plenty of positives!
